Pope Francis has said, "It is not enough to say we are Christians. We must live the faith, not only with our words, but with our actions." That's what we do at the Knights of Columbus with our values of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism, so that we can become better husbands, fathers, sons, neighbors, and Catholics.

The August 2011 issue of the Knights’ Columbia magazine explains our founder and priest, Blessed Michael McGivney “never lost the ability to trust in others as he formed an association of faithful men of action in a world often lost in its search for meaning.”

Those same challenges face us today with the flood of information but lack of the sense of purpose. I argue we must follow the conditions of discipleship as Jesus explained in Mark 8:34, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

Please consider joining our organization and take account the open officer positions.

Council Meeting, Wednesday, October 18, 7-8:30pm in Parish Hall.

A Knight of Columbus named, President John F. Kennedy, in his address before the Irish Parliament on June 28, 1963 (over 60 years ago), said, “The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were.”

And so I ask each of you to dare to dream not where our council has been, but what our council can become. Like Father Steve’s sermon last week about Jesus walking on water and St. Peter’s attempt to follow him, will we dare to do the same or drown in our doubt?

We are looking to restart the St. Philomena Parish Centennial Council 8079. Please use this website (www.kofc8079.org) to view some of the events we participated in the past and feel free to brainstorm our activities for the future. Feel free to contact me via phone (206) 200-3060 or email rainierjreyes@mac.com if you would like to get involved.

Thank you for your consideration,
SK Rainier Reyes
